National and regional engagement programme – Executive Committee and Chair

Find out about our engagement programme meeting a variety of stakeholders across the UK.

Our national and regional engagement programme provides our Executive Committee members and Chair with high quality insight into the experiences of users of financial services and connects them with key local organisations. To date, we have visited places across the UK, meeting local firms, consumer groups, politicians, academics, and other key influencers to discuss their experience of financial services and regional issues.

Understanding the consumer experience

As a UK wide regulator, to deliver our Mission and Business Plan priorities, it is important for us to understand the different experiences of key stakeholders at a regional level, across the UK.

We established the programme in 2017. This provides us with a rich source of insight into the lives of consumers across all walks of life. During these visits, our Executive Committee members and Chair engage directly with a diverse range of stakeholders, helping to give us first-hand knowledge from local businesses, regulated firms, consumer organisations, local government and community groups.

Informing our work

Whilst we cannot address all the challenges we hear about on the visits, we use these to strengthen and build relationships with key stakeholders. They also help us to understand perspectives on key topics, helping to strengthen our knowledge of consumer issues and inform our ongoing work.

These trips are just one of many ways in which we engage with and understand the experiences of various stakeholders across the UK. Our successful Live & Local programme also includes a series of events for regulated firms across the UK. Our largest tracking survey of adults and their finances, Financial Lives, also looks at the different types of consumer and their experiences of financial products and services across the four nations of the UK, the nine regions of England, and by rural and urban areas.

We also publish pictures of our latest visits on our FCA Twitter account.
