The number of individuals in the insurance sector that are authorised to carry out the below Controlled Functions and a breakdown of the below by men and women.

SMF 1 – Chief executive function

SMF 9 - Chair of the governing body function 
SMF 10 - Chair of the risk committee function

SMF 13 - Chair of the nomination committee function 
SMF 14- Senior independent director function 
SMF 15 - Chair of the with-profits committee function 
SMF 16 - Compliance oversight function

SMF 18 - Other overall responsibility function

Please provide data broken down by year for each of the last five years, with a year-end of June 30th.

Please see Annex B below for the total number of individuals in the General Insurance and Pure Protection Sector that hold each of the SMF roles in each of the last 5 years.

We do not hold the information on the gender of SMF roles holders as we do not systematically record the gender of individuals. We hold information on the salutations used by individuals, though they do include additional salutations to the ones specified in your request. Please note, however, that: 

a) individuals may use a salutation that is different to their gender self-identification.

b) there are several salutations which are gender neutral (e.g., ‘Doctor, ‘Professor’), or a role title was provided instead of a salutation (e.g., “Managing Partner”), and

c) in some instances, the salutation field has been left blank.
