Emails from the FCA
We send occasional emails to people who've signed up to receive updates on our car finance work. If you haven’t signed up or are receiving frequent emails, it could be a scam.
You should be wary of scammers pretending to be from the FCA. We'd never ask you to transfer money to us, and we'd never ask for your bank account PINs and passwords.
We've also received reports of scammers contacting people and pretending to be from car finance
What you can do
Forward any fake FCA communications to us at [email protected].
We won't be able to stop these emails, but it will help us investigate any possible scams.
If you no longer want to receive our genuine emails, you can unsubscribe at any time.
Scam emails and letters from fake car finance lenders
We've received reports of scammers contacting people and pretending to be from car finance lenders, offering fake compensation.
If someone contacts you out of the blue and offers compensation, you should make sure you’re dealing with the genuine firm.
Check our list of lenders to make sure the details listed match those you’ve been given.
Remember:
- Don't share your bank account PINs and passwords with anyone.
- Don't give out your bank account details unless you’re certain who you’re dealing with.
If you think you’ve been contacted by a scammer, contact Report Fraud and then report it to us.
Contact from claims management companies and law firms
Claims management companies (CMCs) and law firms are not allowed to contact you out of the blue to promote their services.
There are rules designed to protect you from nuisance calls, texts or emails.
If you receive a contact you didn’t ask for, you can report it to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO). If you see a financial promotion or advert that's unclear or misleading, you can report it to us.
You can also forward suspected spam or scam texts to 7726, a free service run by mobile providers.
- If the approach came from a law firm, you can report your concerns to the Solicitors Regulation Authority.
- You can report concerns about CMCs to us.
