Our future Mission

We published our future Mission to start a discussion to decide how we can make the biggest difference in making markets work well, now and in the future. Consumers have increasingly complex needs, and our role is to regulate in a way that helps financial services meet them.

Our Chief Executive, Andrew Bailey reflects on progress of the Mission consultation including November’s conference and consumer organisation meetings. Andrew explains the importance of the engagement so far and how these valuable insights will help shape our final Mission.

Why we are defining our Mission

We want to provide guidelines to explain how we interpret our objectives and choose our Business Plan priorities. Our Mission will set out a framework to help us prioritise our work, ensuring we focus our resources in the right places.

The future Mission document explains our approach and asks the key questions we need to answer as a conduct regulator.

These include questions relating to consumer responsibility and vulnerability, our role in encouraging change and innovation in the industries we regulate, how we identify harm and then decide what action to take to address it, and the interaction between regulation and public policy.

It also focuses on the tools we use to deliver our competition policy, firm supervision and enforcement work.
