Information on supervision - February 2026

Reference Case Number: FOI2026/00010

Freedom of Information: Right to know request:

Data on supervision cases opened by the FCA relating to insurance firms and insurance intermediaries for the years 2023, 2024, and the period to date in 2025. Specifically:

  • The total number of supervision cases opened in each year, broken down by firm type (insurers and intermediaries) and, where possible, further broken down by: the reasons or topics for which cases were opened (for example client money, culture, Consumer Duty, governance), using the FCA's own categorisation; and the number of cases in which remedy tools such as Voluntary Requirements (VREQs), Own Initiative Requirements (OIREQs) or others were used, broken down by year and firm type.
  • How the FCA categorises the customer harm arising from supervision cases, and whether the data could be broken down to show what customer harms result from those cases.

Clarification provided on 29 January 2026.

The data should cover the following General Insurance firm types: personal and commercial lines insurers (including EEA insurers), personal and commercial lines insurance intermediaries, price comparison websites, and wholesale market firms including Lloyd's managing agents, London market (re)insurers (including P&I Clubs), and Lloyd's and London market intermediaries (including managing general agents). Life insurers are not scope.

If possible, break down the response to show how many firms fall into each of the included categories, or whether this fell outside the scope of the original request.
