Reference Case Number: FOI11912
Freedom of Information: Right to know request:
• The total number of ISAs reported in submissions by FCA-regulated firms made to Gabriel in each of the last five years.
• The total number of individual ISA accounts reported in submissions by FCA-regulated firms made to Gabriel in each of the last three-five years.
FCA response:
On 17 January 2025 we sought clarification of your request, explaining that we understand the second bullet point to relate to the number of individuals reported as having opened an ISA account, and we asked for an explanation of the difference between the two bullet points.
We also explained that we collect data on new investment-based ISA sales through Product Sales Data reporting and noted that not all providers of stocks and shares ISAs are required to report product sales data if they don’t meet the criteria set out in the rules.
In response, on 12 March 2025, you asked that we provide information in response to the first bullet point only.
We have interpreted your request as being for the total number of sales of all ISAs reported in submissions by FCA-regulated firms in each of the last five years. We would again like to emphasise that not all providers of stocks and shares ISAs are required to report product sales data if they don’t meet the criteria set out in the rules.
We can confirm that we hold the requested information. Please find in the attached Annex A the total number of sales of all ISAs reported (to date) in Product Sales Data submissions by FCA-regulated firms in each of the last five years.
