FCA response:

The FCA commenced supervision of banks’ branch closure plans in late 2020. We can confirm we do not hold any information about branch closures prior to that time.

Since the FCA’s supervision of bank branch closures began, there have been two branch closures in Brixton. Natwest closed a branch in June 2021 and Barclays closed a branch in July 2023.

We can confirm we hold information about why these branches were closed, but we are prohibited from disclosing it to you as it constitutes ‘confidential information’ for the purposes of section 348 of the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000 (FSMA), and which the FCA has received in the discharge of its public functions. We are therefore prohibited from disclosing this information under section 44 of FOIA.
