Notify changes to EMD individuals and agents

Find out how and why to tell us if you change the people who manage your e-money services (known as Electronic Money Services Directive (EMD) individuals and agents).

We must ensure that anyone who is a director of your firm or responsible for the management of your e-money services is of good repute and has appropriate knowledge and experience. These are called Electronic Money Services Directive (EMD) individuals and agents.

You must tell us if there are changes to:

  • the directors of the firm
  • the person(s) responsible for your e-money and/or payment services
  • your agents

You can’t use an agent for payment services until they’re on the Register.

Remove an EMD individual

If an EMD individual leaves your employment or is no longer responsible for e-money or payment services at your firm, complete the remove an EMD individual form.

If we think that adding the individual will have an adverse affect on your business, we’ll contact you.

Add an agent

If you appoint an agent, you must notify us by completing an add an EMD agent form.

How long it takes

We aim to process applications for UK EMD agents within ten working days. Once approved, we usually update the Register the next business day.

We aim to process applications for EEA EMD agents within 30 days. The agent will appear on the Register at the end of this period.

We don’t acknowledge successful applications, so check the register. You can call us on 0300 500 0597 if an agent hasn’t appeared on the Register after these times. 

Change an agent’s details

Amend the details of an existing agent, including adding or removing individuals associated with the agent, with the amend an EMD agent form.

How long it takes

We update the register as soon as possible after we approve the change. If we need more information, we’ll contact you.

Remove an agent

If you’re no longer dealing with a registered agent, complete the remove an EMD agent form.
