To help firms understand their requirements, see our links to useful information on EU Securities Financing Transactions Regulation (SFTR) legislation and UK SFTR legislation.  This is not intended to be a comprehensive list of relevant information and is not a substitute for firms’ own research.

Brexit and the transition period

Having left the EU, the UK has now entered a transition period which is due to operate until 31 December 2020. During the transition period, EU law will continue to apply in the UK.

UK statutory instrument

This statutory instrument makes changes to onshore SFTR. This will be brought into UK law at the end of the transition period by operation of the European Union (Withdrawal) Act of 2018 and the European Union (Withdrawal Agreement) Act 2020 (EUWA).

Onshoring of technical standards

To the extent that EU technical standards are operational during the transition period they will be brought into UK law at the end of the transition period by operation of the EUWA.

The exit instruments made by us will make changes to reflect the scope and status of these standards as a result of the UK leaving the EU. We consulted on the technical standards relating to SFTR technical standards.

EU legislation and other documents

During the transition period the below referenced EU law will continue to apply in the UK. This includes the EU SFTR Regulation and technical standards referenced below.
