Reference Case Number: FOI2025/00547
Freedom of Information: Right to know request:
In both your quarterly update on action the regulator has taken on financial promotions and the annual update, the FCA makes mention of how many actions it has taken on a particular type of firm.
For example:
"In 2024, our engagement with 46 authorised CMCs resulted in 9,197 financial promotions being amended/withdrawn (46% of the 19,766 total)"
"Some of the most common breaches involved claims management companies, credit broker firms, debt advice firms and Contract for Difference (CFDs) providers."
I would like the information of action taken by firm type (not the wider categorisation used in Figure 1 of the quarterly updates) for the full year 1 January 2024 to 31 December 2024.
I would also like this same firm type breakdown for the firms. These quarterly reports record as "banned" "OIREQ" "VREQ" and "attestation required" for the full year 1 January 2024 to 31 December 2024.
FCA response:
We can confirm that we hold the requested information. Please see Annex A below for a breakdown of 19,766 actions by primary portfolio between 1 January 2024 to 31 December 2024, cited in our Financial Promotions Data for 2024. Please note that we have interpreted your request to mean the number of financial promotions that were amended or withdrawn for a specific firm within the relevant portfolio.
Please see Annex B below for the number of supervisory tools (‘banned’, ‘OIREQ’, ‘VREQ’ and ‘attestation required’) initiated within each portfolio cited in the financial promotions data for 2024.
