What this means
A principal firm is authorised by us to provide certain products or services in the UK and can appoint ARs to act on its behalf. The principal agrees what activities the AR can do and is responsible for that business.
If you feel like you've been treated unfairly, or if something goes wrong with a financial product or service, you can complain to the AR or to the AR's principal. If you're unhappy with the firm's response, you may be able to complain to the Financial Ombudsman Service.
But if the AR has gone beyond the activities the principal has agreed, the Financial Ombudsman may not be able to consider your complaint.
