This is what we call a 'clone firm'; and fraudsters usually use this tactic when contacting people out of the blue, so you should be especially wary if you have been cold called. They may use the name of the genuine firm, the 'firm reference number' (FRN) we have given the authorised firm or other details.
You can find out more about this scam tactic and how to protect yourself from clone firms.
Fraudsters are using or giving out the following details as part of their tactics to scam people in the UK:
Address: (1)1-9-1 Nihonbashi, Chuo-ku, Tokyo 103-8645, Japan (Clone of FCA Authorised Firm’s Holding Company’s Address)
(2) 2-7-1 Marunouchi, Chiyoda-Ku, Tokyo, 100-8388, Japan (Clone of FCA Registered Firm’s (FRN 204419) Head Office Address)
Please be aware Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group Inc (a Japanese holding company) does not make any contact with clients in the UK or overseas; in the UK, the Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group operates legitimately under a number of different brand names (see http://www.mufg.jp/english), but does not make direct unsolicited contact with retail clients in the UK. Scammers are also referring to the firm’s website to consumers.
