Please provide information on insurance intermediaries (Please see previous request here: Information on insurance intermediaries - May 2025 | FCA[1]).
1. For each calendar year from 2020 to 2025, the number of general insurance intermediary appointed representative approvals (as counted for question 2 of FOI12265), broken down by the relationship type recorded on the Financial Services Register: Appointed Representative, Introducer Appointed Representative, or any other AR classification you record.
2. The number of currently active general insurance intermediary appointed representatives, broken down by the same relationship types, as at the most recent date for which figures are available.

Before responding to your request, we would like to explain that application records do not contain a consistent link to the appointed representative (AR) relationship records from which the relationship classification can be derived. Therefore, to provide the requested breakdown, we have analysed principal-AR relationship records and classified them using information on the Financial Services Register.
The figures differ slightly from those provided in FOI12265 as they are based on relationship effective dates rather than application approval dates and in a small number of cases, relationship amendments are recorded through the creation of a new relationship record.
As a result, the figures below represent the number of effective general insurance intermediary principal-AR relationships recorded in each calendar year, rather than the number of approved AR applications reported in FOI12265.
