The number of firms that have 'retail investment' permissions and the number of individuals currently approved at these firms broken down by annual quarter since 2020 and age group (under 25, 25-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59 and over 60). When considering the below table, please not the following:

We do not hold the data for 2020 broken down by age group. This is because 2020 covers a transitional period following the introduction of the certification regime and the data has therefore been extracted from date reported by firms in their RMA-G[1] returns. This data is reported on a yearly basis, and the date of birth is not a mandatory field.

The below table lists the number of firms, with ‘Sole Trader’ being only sole traders, ‘Partnerships’ being partnerships or limited liability partnerships and the rest falling into ‘Other’.
